How To Join

At the moment Yorkshire Modern Quilt Guild is an online group only.

Later in 2012 we will be organising events starting with Sit and Sew Days (SASD). We will try to vary the location of these as Yorkshire is a big county!

To join the group please become a member of this blog.
You can also sign up for email updates.

  1. Hi, I am relatively new to quilting. I have made a log-cabin cushion and a small (but fabulous) quilt, both taught by Janet. You can have a look at my cushion on my blog, quilt to follow when I can get some good photos (will it ever stop raining?). I am not sure that they fit in with your modern quilting ethos but my next one might....

I hope to make friends, be inspired and learn some new thing through following this blog.

  3. I'm so pleased that you have set up this group and the blog and it looks as if you will attract a lot of attention. As I am still in Yorkshire I would love to join in so hope that you'll let me tag along even when I've moved! Too busy packing to do much quilting at the moment, but I am managing a postcard or two.

  7. Hello everyone, I am so glad I found you. I have been quilting for quite some time and have not found a local group until now. I know I should really join the Quilt Guild as it is so conveniently located here in York, but haven't gotten around to it yet. Here is my blog if you want to have a snoop around: http://thiscreativebliss.blogspot.co.uk/
    Nice to meet you all.

  9. Reading your definition of "modern",I think that's what I am. I've been making traditional quilts for about 10 years, and have had patterns published in magazines, and a book which came out last year, but recently my interest has moved towards more modern colours and fabrics, a lot of white as backgrounds, and slightly less regulated patterns. I've just ordered the Modern Quilting magazine, and now I'm off to Amazon to buy a couple of books that have been mentioned here.

  10. HI, I have just found you through the Craftsy.com website. Great to know there are some localish quilters out there. I have just started quilting earlier this year when I subscribed to The Craftsy Block of the Month with Amy Gibson. A free online quilting class. I think that I err to the more modern approach to quilting. I love the simplicity of the more modern blocks. Looking forward to contributing. I have posted some of my projects on the Craftsy site if you are interested

  11. Hello, I hope you don't mind me crashing your blog! I am a new mother in the Wharfedale area and I would love to have a quilt made from my baby's clothing. I've seen a few websites from some ladies who make such quilts but they are a bit old-fashioned for my taste so thought maybe someone here may be able to help. For the record, I can't even sew a button (I blame my mother, neither could she ;). There's no rush on this as my daughter is only coming up to four months old and has lots of time to grow out of things which can then be used for the quilt. I'd like it to be functional, something my little girl and I can snuggle up with for years to come. If anyone can help, please feel free to email me - erikab922 _ at _ gmail _ dot _ com. I'm loving looking at your blogs, you guys are very, very talented!

  15. Hello everyone, Can't believe it took me so long to find this group. Me? I'm a fifty-something dementia support worker who quilts, cooks and gardens. I started quilting when clothing labels became important and homemade clothing 'was not cool' for the younger generation. In my family this happened in 1993. You can read more at our blog: www.down-the-avenue.blogspot.co.uk I'm enjoying reading the blogs listed above.

  16. Welcome Wendy! Stay tuned to the blog for news and new activities and come and meet us in person on our sit and sew days if you're not too busy with all your other activities. Your blog is great and I'll try and visit it often.

  17. Hi - I have just joined you from Hartlepool, not Yorkshire, but if I smile you might let me in. I have been quilting since last Easter and have really got the bug. This week I finished quilting my most recent piece with concentric circles. I'm going to make my first bias binding next and finish the quilt with my first attempt at curved corners. When it's ready, I'll share my blog with you.

  25. hello! Im am very new to quilting! I was taught by a friend of mine at University over the last couple of years and am currently trying to finish up a fan made from shirts from my family! The friend that taught me came from a long line of Texan quilters who had been doing so for hundreds of years! She had brought a quilt over from the US made by her great great grandma! Anyway, I absolutely fell in love with it and she has been teaching me how to quilt ever since! Sadly she is leaving back to the US soon as we have both just finished our degrees and I'm really going to miss her and our stitch sessions and am looking to find something similar here and learn from all of you lovely people! Theres so much beautiful work on this site!!!
